The Chateau at Brooklyn Rehabilitation & Nursing Center Visit

On a brisk February afternoon, members of the World Mission Society Church of God went to warm up the hearts of Brooklyn seniors. They went to The Chateau at Brooklyn Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in the Sheepshead Bay area of Brooklyn, NY to provide entertainment to the seniors who reside there.

Residents spent a fun-filled afternoon singing, clapping and dancing to music from various cultures. The performances began with a Hawaiian hula dance with the telling of a story of undying love. Afterward, a men’s quartet sang an original doo-wop version of Ben E. King’s “Stand by Me.” Then they brought everyone to the Dominican Republic with a colorful dance to the Dominican Merengue.

Later, the residents sang along to Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” and then Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.” After, everyone visited Cuba with the teenage volunteers and danced La Rumba to “Quimbara” by Celia Cruz. Lastly, as the finale, the members sang spiritual hymns called New Songs to the residents. The afternoon concluded with an encore performance of “Stand By Me” by the men’s quartet.

A grandmother of one of the church volunteers is also a resident at the center. Her grandson, Alejandro Roldan, was overjoyed to see his grandmother have a good time. “I am moved by the unity, love and fun we had today,” said Alejandro Roldan. “This is the only church that gives of themselves as true Christians.”

Lana, a nurse who cares for the seniors, said, “Out of everyone I’ve invited to come here, you guys were the best. I had a lot of fun.”

Volunteers were not only present at The Chateau at Brooklyn Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on Sunday. Church of God members participated in a day of volunteer service up and down the whole East Coast. As a result, they are spreading the love of Heavenly Mother through their united efforts.
